Welcome to the official website of Chinese Embassy in Mauritius! Thank you for your attention to Sino-Mauritian relationships!

Mauritius is known as the “Heaven on Earth”, with its beautiful scenery, diverse cultures, friendly people, and multiple ethnic groups who live in harmony with each other. Since its independence in 1968, rapid economic development as well as social harmony and stability have created the "Mauritius Miracle" in Africa.

More than 200 years ago, Chinese people crossed oceans to take root here. Mauritian Chinese have since then greatly contributed to the economic and social development of Mauritius, while Chinese culture has become an important part of the multi-cultural environment of Mauritius. 30 years ago, the first Chinese Cultural Centre abroad was settled on this beautiful Island.

Mauritius is the only country in Africa where Spring Festival is an official national holiday. It is also the first country that printed the portrait of a Chinese man on one of their banknote. China town, Chinese restaurants, dragon and lion dances performances… in Mauritius, Chinese culture is everywhere. Nowadays, it has become a well-known tourist destination abroad for Chinese citizens.

China and Mauritius have maintained friendly relations since long ago. China was one of the first country to establish diplomatic relationships with Mauritius in 1972. Since then, the mutual confidence between the two countries has constantly deepened, high-level diplomatic visits have been frequent and cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, culture, tourism, and health has yielded fruitful results. The free trade agreement between China and Mauritius, which is the first free trade agreement between China and the African countries, has officially taken into effective in 2021. The two countries will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2022, and it will bring new opportunities for bilateral ties.

The Chinese Embassy will continue to act as a bridge and link between the two countries and to provide much more assistance to Chinese nationals. We hope that the website of the Embassy will become a window for everyone to learn about China and Sino-Mauritian relations. We would very much appreciate your comments and suggestions.
