On occasion of the 75th anniversary of the victory of the Second World War and the Great Patriotic War of the Soviet Union, Chinese Ambassador Sun Gongyi and his Russian counterpart Ambassador Klimovskiy exchanged letters, recalling the historic friendship between China and Russia and reiterating the significance of solidarity and cooperation for overcoming difficulties.

Ambassador Klimovskiy stated in his letter that it has been 75 years since the end of the Second World War and the Great Patriotic War of the Soviet Union. Russia has always kept in mind that Russia and China, as well as USA, UK, France have jointly formed an anti-fascist alliance and made important contributions to the final victory. The history of the Second World War shows that, despite different social and economic systems, different political opinions, different historical and religious traditions, when confronting a great crisis, all countries in the world can and should be united for a common goal. Nowadays, as humanity faces many challenges and threats, solidarity becomes even more important.

In his reply, Ambassador Sun Gongyi extended warm congratulations to Ambassador Klimovskiy on the victory of the Second World War and the Great Patriotic War of the Soviet Union, saying that the Second World War was an unprecedented catastrophe in the history of mankind. As the main battlefields in Asia and Europe, China and Russia made great national sacrifices as well as indelible contribution to the final victory of the Second World War, saving the entire human race. Since the outbreak of Covid-19, China and Russia have once again demonstrated to the world a model of international cooperation in helping each other to fight against the epidemic. President Xi Jinping and President Putin exchanged calls on many occasions. United together and supporting each other, the two countries exchanged expert groups, provide medical supplies mutually and cooperated in the development of vaccines. At present, the epidemic prevention and control measures in Russia are gradually taking effect. China is fully convinced that Russia will finally tide over the crisis.

Ambassador Sun emphasized that the history of the Second World War and the practice of fighting Covid-19 both show that humanity is a community of shared destiny, thus solidarity and cooperation are the most powerful weapons to wrestle with the crisis. The international community should carry forward the spirit of the anti-fascist war, uniting together to meet various global challenges, continuing to consolidate everlasting peace in the world, and continuously promoting the common progress of mankind.
