Ambassador Sun Gongyi Meets with Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Development of Mauritius

On September 28, 2020, Ambassador Sun Gongyi met with Mr. Renganaden Padayachy, Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Development of Mauritius. The two sides exchanged views on strengthening Sino-Mauritian practical cooperation in various fields.

Ambassador Sun Gongyi underscored that China and Mauritius have taken the lead in successfully controlling the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic through arduous efforts with economic activities and people's lives recovering in a faster pace. Many of China's major economic data have turned from negative to positive, resisting downwards trend and achieving a notable rise.

Ambassador Sun Gongyi pinpointed that the Sino-Mauritian cooperation in fighting against the virus shows that only solidarity and cooperation are the most powerful weapons to defeat the pandemic. China wishes to work with Mauritius to implement the results of the Extraordinary China-Africa Summit on Solidarity Against COVID-19, accelerate the cooperation between Chinese hospitals and its counterparts, and promote the development of bilateral relations on the basis of normalization of pandemic prevention and control.

Minister Padayachy highly commended China's achievements in fighting the pandemic, expressed gratitude to the Chinese government for its support and assistance in fighting the virus, and highlighted that Mauritius has learned from China's policies and experience in controlling the spread of the pandemic. He also emphasized that the friendship between China and Mauritius is rooted in history and culture and dates back long time ago. He hopes that China will continue to be concerned about and support Mauritius's economic and social development. Mauritius wishes to strengthen exchanges and develop friendly cooperation with China in the fields of infrastructure construction and health.
