Latest on COVID-19 in Mauritius

1. Mauritius recorded 8 new imported COVID-19 cases on October 15. Till now, there are 41 active cases in Mauritius with a total of 415 confirmed cases, 364 cured cases, and 10 deaths. 1693 people are under quarantine.

2. The Minister of Health and Wellness of Mauritius Jagutpal announced recently that Mauritius will sign a vaccine procurement agreement with GAVI and plans to purchase about 260,000 doses of vaccine after its successful development and utilization. It is expected that the vaccine will cover 20% of the Mauritian population, and injections will be given priority to the elderly and medical staff.

3. On October 15, the COVID-19 testing lab at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport was officially put into use, and 183 passengers were tested at the same day. From now on, all passengers arriving by plane will undergo nucleic acid tests there.

4. According to Mauritian media, from October 15, Air Seychelles launched connecting flights to Mauritius and Madagascar. In addition, Aero Africa plans to resume cargo flights between Johannesburg and Mauritius.
