On July 31, 2020, the Chinese Embassy in Mauritius and the Ministry of Health and Wellness of Mauritius jointly held the handover ceremony of epidemic prevention materials aided by China. Ambassador Sun Gongyi, Minister of Health and Wellness of Mauritius Jagutpal, Senior Chief Executive Bhugun, and Commercial Counselor Hu Ming attended the handover ceremony.

Ambassador Sun Gongyi underscored that since the global outbreak of COVID-19, China has responded quickly and actively supported African countries in fighting the epidemic. Two batches of epidemic prevention materials have been donated by the Chinese government to the Mauritian. Mrs. Peng Liyuan, spouse of Chinese President Xi Jinping, donated a batch of materials especially to Mrs. Kobita Jugnauth, spouse of the Mauritian Prime Minister, to help Mauritian women, children and youth affected by the epidemic; International Department of Central Committee of CPC, Chinese Embassy in Mauritius, some provinces and cities in China, some Chinese enterprises and institutions of higher education as well as other non-governmental organizations also donated urgently needed medical supplies to all walks of life in Mauritius, which reflects the friendship between the Chinese government and people and the Mauritian government and people, and interprets China's concept of building a China-Africa community with a shared future.

Minister Jagutpal said that the friendship between China and Mauritius has a long history and the two sides have maintained a good cooperative relationship since the establishment of diplomatic relations. Chinese culture has become an important part of Mauritian multiculturalism. He expressed his sincere gratitude to China for providing selfless assistance to Mauritius during the crisis which once again fully reflects the high level of Sino-Mauritian relations and the friendship between the two peoples. Mr. Jagutpal congratulated the Chinese government on the effective control of the epidemic and commended China for its exemplary role in the global fight against the virus, saying that both Mauritius and China are committed to the resumption of work and production and gradual restoration of normal life and order. Mauritius looks forward to further strengthening exchanges and cooperation in health and other fields with China to benefit the two peoples of both countries.
