Ambassador Sun Gongyi Pays a Courtesy Call on New President of Mauritius

On December 17, Ambassador Sun Gongyi paid a courtesy call on new Mauritian President Roopun, and the two sides exchanged views on deepening friendly relations between China and Mauritius and strengthening exchanges and cooperation in various fields. Cultural Counsellor Song Yanqun was present at the meeting.

Ambassador Sun Gongnyi forwarded a congratulatory message from President Xi Jinping to Roopun, congratulating him on his new appointment as president, and saying that Sino-Mauritian friendship has a long history and the two countries have achieved fruitful cooperation. China is willing to continuously support Mauritius's economic and social development and deepen cooperation in various fields, stepping up friendly cooperation between China and Mauritius to a new level for the benefit of the peoples of both countries.

President Roopun expressed his gratitude towards China for its long-term support to the development of Mauritius and highly appreciated China's remarkable achievements in the fields of economy, scientific research and innovation in recent years, saying that President Xi Jinping paid a friendly visit to Mauritius in 2018 and that Prime Minister Jugnauth went to China to attend 2018 FOCAC Beijing Summit. Through mutual high-level visits, the two leaders drew the plan for the future development of China-Mauritius relations. Mauritius wishes to work with China to further expand the areas of cooperation and push bilateral relations forward.
