On December 18, Ambassador Sun Gongyi paid a courtesy call on new Minister of Gender Equality and Family Welfare Koonjoo-shah, and the two sides exchanged views on strengthening cooperation in the field of women and children. Counselor Wang Ju, spouse of Ambassador Sun Gongyi, was also present at the meeting.

Ambassador Sun congratulated Mrs. Koonjoo-shah on her new appointment as minister, saying that the Chinese government attaches great importance to the protection of women's rights and interests, and that China has made great progress in helping women integrate into society and promoting women's career development. China wishes to further strengthen exchanges and mutual communication with Mauritius as well as deepen pragmatic cooperation in relevant fields.

Minister Koonjoo-shah highlighted that China is a "great friend" of Mauritius and thanked China for its assistance to the economic and social development in Mauritius as well as the Chinese Embassy's support for Mauritian women's cause. The Ministry wishes to communicate closely with related Chinese departments on specific cooperation projects and jointly contribute to the development of friendship between China and Mauritius.
